There’s something special about summer nights that comes alive when there’s music in the air. There are definitely more smiles and probably even more tapping feet and clapping hands. A handful of communities provide these summer soundscapes at a multitude of weekly free outdoor summer concert series across Hampshire County in Western Massachusetts.

On Thursdays, you can pick between music in the park or music on the porch. Every Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Williamsburg, Angel Park’s Quiet Reflection Garden fills with music for a peaceful and relaxing evening in the Hilltowns. From July 11 through August 29, Angel Park’s Summer Concert Series goes on a journey through American music, featuring artists who specialize in Southern roots music to Appalachian ballads.

In Florence, musicians pack the porch at 90 Park Street starting at 6:30 p.m. for Florence Music on the Porch Series. Concerts continue through Thursday August 29. This series is full of Hampshire County’s local heroes, some who have surpassed our airwaves, such as The Sun Parade (July 11), Young @ Heart Chorus (July 18) and Heather Maloney (Aug. 22).

Fridays offer you a choice between our two big cities of Northampton and Easthampton. And your choice could be entirely dependent on where you want to get ice cream to enjoy with the music!

Starting this Friday at 6 p.m., Northampton’s Summer Concert Series in Pulaski Park provides eight weeks of our homegrown talent. “It gives us a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talent rising out of the valley right now and it’s also a ton of fun to bring the best up and coming independent national acts before they explode,” says Jamie Kent, founder of The Collective Music Group and co-producer of the series. “I guarantee in the next couple of years you’ll be saying ‘I danced to that band at the summer concert series!’”

Arts in the Park is Easthampton’s summer concert series that runs every Friday night at 6:30 p.m. through August 26. Music ranges from folk and bluegrass to polka and classic rock. Events take place at Millside Park located at 2 Ferry Street. Presented by Easthampton Parks and Recreation Department.
