Now that December's arrived, it's time to start thinking about how to celebrate the start of a New Year! These are our tops picks for things to do in Western Massachusetts on New Year's Eve no matter if you're looking to hang with the crowds or have a more intimate gathering at home.

First Night Northampton
Whether you’re planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the whole family, your better half, or your group of amazing friends, First Night Northampton is THE New Year’s Eve event in Western Massachusetts for all. First Night is a daylong celebration of the arts with performances at 20 venues in Northampton beginning at noon. There are fireworks at 6:15 p.m. to signal the start of evening performances, many of which wrap up at 11 p.m.  At the end of the night, traffic is stopped for the masses to gather at the intersection of King and Main Street to watch the globe on top of the Hotel Northampton rise up at midnight to welcome the New Year.

Feast
A New Year’s Eve celebration isn’t complete without a fantastic meal, and with our region in Western Mass. being a foodie paradise and all, there’s plenty of options! Look for special prix fixe or pairing menus at Bistro Les Gras and ConVino Wine Bar in Northampton; 30Boltwood at the Lord Jeffery Inn in Amherst; and the Log Cabin’s Dance the Year Away Party features a special wine pairing menu. Given New Year’s Eve is a weekend night this year, many of your favorites like Eastside Grill in Northampton and Osteria Vespa in Amherst will be holding regular dinner service. Just be sure to make reservations wherever you decide to go!

Get Cozy
For the ultimate romantic New Year’s Eve getaway with your sweetie, look no further than the Lord Jeffery Inn in Amherst. This historic Inn’s New Year’s package includes $100 to use at 30Boltwood, chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne in your room, and plenty of fireplaces to snuggle up near.

Stock Up For Your Own Party
Provisions Party Platter

Even if staying in on New Year’s Eve is your jam, we have plenty of places to stock up on all of your essential party provisions. Our top pick right now is Provisions in Northampton. The platters (pictured above!) from its cheese counter lately are sure to impress your guests. There’s also always someone there to help you find the perfect beer, wine or cider you’re looking for. And you just might get to sample something while you’re shopping, too. Save the date for its annual Grand Champagne Tasting on Saturday, December 10 from 12-6 p.m.

Also consider visiting our other regional favorites like Serio’s Market and State Street in Northampton or Atkins Farms in Amherst.

For something sweet, check out local bakeries like Small Oven, Tart Baking Co, and Florence Pie Bar, which most recently received a shout-out from The Boston Globe.
